About me

Hi!  Welcome to my blog.  I am Andrew Wild,  I live in Northern Virginia on the east coast of the United States and I have been working in the information security and networking fields for over 25 years. I started my professional career as an officer in the US Army's Signal Corps (3rd generation Signal Corps Officer and 4th generation US Army veteran).   I've held a variety of positions from network engineer to chief security officer.    Some of the private sector companies that I've worked for include Siecor (now Corning Cable), Sprint, British Telecom, Transaction Network Services, EMC and Qualys.

Because of my computer networking background, I am still very focused on security at the network level, and I enjoy using tools like Wireshark for packet level analysis.  I have learned the importance of application security in today's ever increasing world of web applications, but do not consider myself  a web app pen tester.  Cloud and Virtualization security are of great interest to me, and I have worked extensively with VMware and AWS.  I have participated in the Cloud Security Alliance on the the Security as a Service (SecaaS, don't ask me how to pronounce the acronym ;) ) working group.  I've had the fortunate opportunity to speak at several information security conferences on a variety of infosec topics.  Along the way I've also gained a strong understanding of what it means to identify and manage risk, especially in regard to information security.

I am a graduate of the US Military Academy at West Point, and the George Washington University.  A veteran of the US Army, I served as paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division and participated in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

Outside of securing networks and computers, I enjoy reading, outdoor activities, brewing beer, grilling & smoking meat, and spending time with family and friends.
